Natural Bug Bug control - Bugs are an seductive part of every home.
In the air, carpet, countertop or cupboard, every home shares it's resources with these small, often unseen invaders. Pesticides are for sale for most common household insect pests, but these potent chemical compounds may be more harmful to you personally and the environment than your pests. Here are some natural, no-toxic ways to control family insect pests.
Ants
Ant Control The first line of defense is to remove the attractants: keep counters free from crumbs and sticky spots. Protect the sugar and put your honey jar in a plastic-type baggie. Cut off water resources such as drips or food left soaking overnight. If the ant invaders persist, try these simple measures:
Keep a small spray jar handy, and spray the little bugs with a bit of water and soap.
Set out cucumber peels as well as slices in the kitchen or at the ants' point of entry. Many ants use a natural aversion to cucumber. Unhealthy cucumbers work best.
Leave a few tea hand bags of mint tea near areas where the ants seem most lively. Dry, crushed mint leaves or even cloves also work as emmet deterrents.
Trace the ant column returning to their point of entry. Set any of the following items at the entry area in a small series, which ants will not mix: cayenne pepper, citrus oil (could be soaked into a piece regarding string), lemon juice, cinnamon or perhaps coffee grounds.
Mix one liter of normal water, one teaspoon of Borax plus a cup of sugar. Soak natural cotton balls in the solution and place them in a small natural yogurt container with holes punched inside lids to allow ants access. Place container in a area where ants are present. Helpless ants will carry the bait to their colonies where it could eventually kill the colony. Important: employ indoors only; must be kept away from pets and children.
Leave a small, low electricity night light on for a few nights in the area of most ant activity. The change in light can disrupt and discourage their own foraging patterns.
Ants on the deck? Fall a few cut up cloves of garlic between the cracks.
For long-term nontoxic power over ants, sprinkle diatomaceous earth wherever ants congregate.
Commercial ant killers are obtainable in two forms: AntEater organic ish killer, and BugShooter insect manage spray.
Dust Mites
Non-toxic Mite Control Microscopic dust mites are everywhere in the home - in our beds, clothing, furniture, book shelves and stuffed animals. For people with allergies as well as asthma, dust mites are a challenge. Here's how to reduce the actual dust mite population in your current home:
Vacuum mattresses and pillows. For people with sensitivities to dust mite allergens, dust mite bedding is available with zippered, allergen-impermeable encasings made to block dust mites.
Wash bedding at 55 degrees Celsius (130F) or higher. Detergents along with commercial laundry products have simply no effect on mites unless the water temperature is high.
Keep books, stuffed animals, chuck rugs and laundry hampers from the bedroom of allergy sufferers. Wash stuffed animals occasionally in trouble.
Tannic acid neutralizes the substances in dust mite and pet dander. Dust problem areas together with tannic acid powder, available from health food stores and dog centers.
Cover mattress and pillows with laminated covers which prevent transmission by dust mites. Avoid fabric-covered headboards.
Cover heating ducts with a new filter which can trap very small dust particles smaller than 10 microns.
Avoid using humidifiers. Dust termites thrive on warmth and humidity.
